Witty Look

2007 – 2013

Witty Look circle show Shieldfield Green, with Christ Church Spire, home of Circus Central behind, 2012Both from Tokyo, Japan, Chiharu Kunishima “Cheeky” b.1977 and Daiki Izumida b.1978 have performed all over the world. Cheeky was a junior synchronised swimming champion before starting mime in 1998 because she ‘wanted to be like a cartoon’! Daiki was taught to unicycle by his family and was the world champion unicyclist for freestyle 2000 & holds the Guinness book of records for number of skips on a unicycle in 1 min! They have won busking competitions in the UK, Canada and Europe as well as 5 Japanese festivals!

They have performed as Witty Look since 2007 and are loved all over the world. Witty Look first performed in Newcastle as part of Hip Hat Hooray Busking Festival in 2007. Since then the pair have returned to the NE annually, and express Newcastle to be their British home, often performing at Let’s Circus events as well as teaching at local circus clubs. In 2011 they were made the ‘Fools of Muncaster” and in 2013 they performed in Company Man a Cheeky Park Production at the Edinburgh Fringe. Their show is made up of unicycling, acrobatics & clowning & is memorable for Cheeky doing an inverted neck balance on Daiki’s shoulders – on a unicycle, Daiki’s five wheeled pentacycle & for Cheeky’s frilly pants.
