Bravura

1994 – date

Storage space at The Byre Yard, with many familiar items to the people of Stockton from the Carnival parade, 2013Bravura was established in 1994 by Barbara Agar and husband Richard. Barbara, a trained teacher, started her artistic career as a result of a course with Welfare State International. Barbara is the artistic director of Bravura, which is based in a large agricultural shed in Stokesley, near Stockton. Bravura have been involved in many regional carnival and community events through out the North East and have worked internationally. In 1993 they worked with Cathie Sprague to develop Byre Yard Bonfire & Circus skills project.

Bravura have worked most closely with the Stockton Carnival Parade. Their team of free-lance makers, workshop leaders, technicians and choreographers bring to life colourful structures lanterns and site decorations, mainly for the outdoors. In c.2006 working with Frank Wilson, they developed the barn into a Creation Space. Barbara has also made costumes for other circus/street arts companies including Chimaera and Bell & Bullock.
