Circadium

2009 – date

Circadium Event, Great Hall, Discovery Museum, Newcastle @ Five Ring Circus Festival 2010Circadium is a day long Circus Convention which is a free event for the local community. It is known to be a stadium of circus and is inspired by a similar tent-based circus venue in Australia co-founded by Reg Bolton, Let’s Circus and Gabe Monson for the Woodford Folk Festival. Organised and managed by Let’s Circus the first Circadium was part of Xperience (Extreme Sports) Festival in Tynemouth, Oct 2009 when more than 1000 people took part in the weekend of circus shows and workshops. Visiting professionals included Flame Oz, Joe May, Haggis McLeod, Jill Maglio and Massi Rosetti.

In 2010 the event moved to the Discovery Museum. It became part of the Five Ring Circus Festival and was attended by Spaghetti Circus from Australia. In 2012 the event again attracted young people and community circus people from across the region. This particular event was part of the Cultural Olympiad programme and gave members of the public a chance to try circus skills including: Manipulations (juggling, hats, etc), Equilibristics (unicycle, tight wire, rola bola), Aerial (trapeze, silks, lyra) and Acrobatics (tumbling, trampette, German Wheel and Chinese pole.)
